Moopyvision 2010-2019 Round 6: Armenia, Iceland & Moldova (1 Viewer)

O mie is utterly divine and one of my big favourites of 2013. I definitely didn't see myself only giving it an 8, and given it made it to 11th from third on I could well imagine she might have challenged for the top 5 had she been on at the end.

Hoping for a XXX spread of juicy SERGIU THIGH PICS to celebrate DoReDos coming top of the eurolounge pops and winning no actual prize whatsoever :disco:

By the way, since Run Away was before my time, I don't understand how it didn't do well. I mean 1. what an amazing perf! and 2. even without the slightest interest in Eurovision back then, I knew about sax guy.

Surprised but very pleased that the Sunstroke Project songs have ended up the right way round (and no need for a third go round loves if the best looking of the group has jumped ship :()

2nd: Sunstroke Project & Olia Tira - Run Away (149pts)

A funny one, this. At the time, it was a diverting also-ran that just barely scraped into the finals (3 points more for Finland and this whole thing may never have happened!) and ended up in 22nd place. But sometime between then and now, the internet got hold of 'Epic Sax Guy' (as he came to be known) and his hypnotic pelvic thrusting, and lo a meme was born.

The song's just OK really. It feels much more Eurovision and less genuinely chart-ready than their follow-up, but the sax hook IS legitimately the best bit. I bet the woman is well bitter these days. Talk about OVERSHADOWED.

1st: DoReDos - My Lucky Day (199pts)

In which Dannii Minogue, a sexy cub and the ghost of Aram MP3 transform a mildly diverting ditty into one of the most charming Eurovision performances of recent years with an inspired bit of panto choreography. :disco:

Sorry to be all I WAS THERE, but this came straight after Russia in the running order, and after three consecutive helpings of Julia Samoylova's bleatings in the first rehearsals, this reveal was like MANNA from HEAVEN. I've rarely heard the press centre erupt so much.

A rightful win, I feel. Not Moldova's biggest hit, but certainly the one that most effectively captures their uniquely daffy charm. May they continue to roll out delightful tat like this until they miss one electricity bill too many and the entire country gets sold off for scrap.

Travel update: My train is back to full speed, but due to all the chaos we're still having to wait approx 30 minutes at every stop to prevent us crashing into another train and this unfinished thread being my final legacy. Consequently, I'm still in fucking GRANTHAM.

As ever, my suffering is Moopy's gain, so on we plough with ICELAND :disco:

Praise heavens I thought choosing a 12 out of this lot would be impossible (I loved everything from my 2 pointer up!), but it ALL BECAME ACADEMIC once Lucky Day rolled around and I found myself GRINNING LIKE A LOON for the whole three minutes. Fuego aside, my BIG favourite for my first Eurovision out in Lisbon on the night, and one that handily won me £170 when it came top ten too! QUEENS! :disco:

I can't identify the one specific part of the My Lucky Day perf I like most - every time I watch it I look forward to a different bit. Perennial MOMENTS are the spontaneous crowd pop when Red tries to finger Yellow, the wavy arm dance where the genuinely ecstatic backing dancers come out to play, and the bit where Blue puts his hand to his mouth in shock AND CARRIES ON SINGING. Fucking amazing.

10th: Ari Ólafsson - Our Choice (16pts)

There comes a time in every country's Eurovision journey when a string of flops just causes them to sort of GIVE UP for a while. Think of it as the rock bottom before the successful trip to rehab.

With that in mind, here's Iceland's wettest fart of an entry, a saccharine Disney ballad (straight to DVD only) so limp and hopeless that even the UK would probably turn up their noses. Poor Ari was a nice kid, but he really did have the look of the interval act at a Hitler Youth rally, and given a choice between listening to that high note and the gas chambers, I'd pull the switch myself.

Dismal. But fortunately salvation was just around the corner... :horny:

Oh wow that ride back home must be rough, but still... VoR has absolutely no chill!

I think I’d have happily given more or less NADA to six of Iceland’s entries this decade but it was very easy to decide which one I liked LEAST :disco:

9th: Sjonni's Friends - Coming Home (49pts)

Oh Moopy, you heartless bastards!

For those unfamiliar with the back story, the original singer/songwriter of this song - one Sjonni Brinck - died suddenly at the age of 37, just before the national final. Rather than withdrawing his entry, a bunch of his pals got together and performed the song in his place, understandably winning a huge national sympathy vote in the process.

The sympathy was a bit more lacking at Eurovision, where this finished a lowly 20th, but then we're talking about a contest that once welcomed a Bosnian who literally fled from Sarajevo in a hail of bulletfire and rewarded him with 16th place. :disco:

Anyway, it's a crap song but as a whole package it's nicely jaunty and heartfelt without being maudlin. And yes, I would 100% have sex with that bear.

1 x 8 (Pingu)
2 x 0 (Jacques, lolly)
