7th: Filipa Azevedo - Há dias assim (119pts)

Portugal entered the 10s on a bit of a roll, with two well-liked qualifiers back to back in 08 and 09. This is the sound of a country doing well, but not really trying to win. Professional, well presented, but ultimately quite boring.

That is quite literally all I've got on this. Pretty lady, lovely frock, nice voice. It's perhaps the perfect average of a Portuguese Eurovision entry

I really resent the blistering attack of world music on Moopy. You are all addicted to the internet and are therefore incapable of appreciating songs like Telemòvies which make deliberate artistic choices to leave out notes and melodies.

He elected to wear his grandmother's finest zoot suit for the biggest night of his life, and his hair gave him the look of someone who'd managed to escape after eight years chained to a radiator in a terrorist cell's basement. I can't imagine personal hygiene figures too highly on his list of priorities.

Aww, I really like this one! I mean, I know Portugal served up gem after gem this decade, but it's really quite rousing in a 'Portugal go to Lilith Fair' kind of way.

To be fair, Europe shat on it too, and poor shoulder-wigglin' Leonora was on the early flight back to Lisbon. I love how hard she's working to make this song happen in the performance. CAPE! HAND CLAPS! KEY CHANGE!

Speaking of, big LOL at the isolated gay scream when that key change kicks in I SWEAR IT WASN'T ME

My soft spot for a touch of FADO is well documented, so obviously I love this one too. It's very much the sound of sun-kissed Lisbon nights, which more than makes up for having an actual hummable melody in my book

Lots of intense SQUATTING going on in this performance. I hope it wasn't a dodgy Baku Kebab coming back to haunt her...

Any fears that victory would light a fire under Portugal to become the Sweden of the Iberian peninsula were swiftly abated by this, their home entry, in which two lesbians perform a chorus-free interpretive dance number about their dead grandmother. HOW COULD IT FAIL?

Seriously though, I adore this and it has been know to elicit a tear or two when it catches me at the right moment, but that last place should have been no surprise to anybody*.

*Obviously I confidently predicted top ten at the time...
