Their first two singles are both great, but Requiem is magnificent. It’s the top level gay disco drama of it all...

History is failing to record that Mark Goodier was the crown prince of the Indie airwaves in the early 90's. I won competitions on his show. The first Blur LP, a Pale Saints CD, some World Of Twist t-shirts....

"Straight Up" still sounds decent. Something quite spiky about it. Almost angular.
 
Pat and Mick. I have no idea if this translated but to this day, "Pat and Mick" is Glasgow slang for sick (as in "poorly"). As is...

This does not mean I'm unable to attend work due to an inability to stop dancing.
 
I fucking love The The. "Soul Mining", "Infected", "Mind Bomb" and "Dusk" would be on the national curriculum if it were up to me. I even quoted them in a sleevenote...

I quite enjoy The Cult's RAWK phase. Although I hadn't realised Kid Chaos had lasted such a short time in the line up. Also, Matt Sorum on drums who would be pinched for Guns 'n' Roses before long.
 
I had the London Boys album on tape back when and I've just been reviewing on Spotify. My Love I had entirely forgotten about, but I'm Gonna Give My Heart is quite something, even if it sounds like it is going to go into Everybody Wants to Rule the World in the bridge.

I got quite a kick out of their excitement every time at the '5-4-3-2-1' and 'Thunderbirds are GO!' parts.

I think it was largely circumstantial. A lack of anything other than approved narratives crossing the pond.
 
Does anyone NOT think of Martine vomming in his dreads when they see or hear Simply Red? Its Fergie's piss patch or Paula Radcliffe having a dump. Some things just over ride everything else.
 
This Transvision Vamp tune hasn't weathered as well as some of the others either. Feels very stiff and boxy. Forced.

As a result of the success of 'Doctorin' The Tardis', the KLF published a book entitled The Manual. Written by members Bill Drummond and Jimmy Cauty, the book instructed — as a joke — how to earn a number-one hit without much work. One instruction, "Compose your music with bits you've nicked from other songs" was supposedly followed by Edelweiss, allowing them to compose "Bring Me Edelweiss."
