The song appears three times on TOTP: the first time as a breaker with Mike Smith but then a studio appearance with Gary Davies hosting and finally a video appearance with Janice Long presenting.

After three series as troubled teen Ant, Ricky was written out of Grange Hill when his character realised he was no longer a part of the school. Ricky had been a successful child actor and model and went on to have one or two minor acting roles after Grange Hill. However, Ricky’s big love is music and he decided to pursue a career in music, having 12 top 40 hits under a range of different group names including Space Brothers. Ricky then moved into production and songwriting, writing and producing tracks for a range of different artists as well as his own.

Topically, Grange Hill has just been on BBC Breakfast as it's the 40th anniversary of the programme. And in good timing the 1986 cast of the programme will once again be on TOTP 1986 tonight... shame the single is utter rubbish.

This is YET ANOTHER reason I hate JANET FUCKING JACKSON. Think of all the GREAT RECORDS JAM & LEWIS might have made if she hadn't got her TALONS into them. There were no more 'The Finest's, 'Just Be Good To Me's, 'Human's, 'Saturday Love's or 'Criticize's after THAT
 
PRINCESS was really just STOCK/AITKEN/WATERMAN trying to RIP OFF off the JAM/LEWIS sound. They soon gave up with THAT

Right then...catch up time...

That Mike and The Mechanics record is OK actually but drummers must have HATED those hexagonal/octagonal drum pads. We all know it's a drum machine on the record and now the poor bugger has the double humiliation of having to mime the part on fake drums.
 
Kate Bush's outfit couldn't be more 80's and yet she still looks amazing. Also, her brother has clearly never played a cello before in his life...

That Stones video is priceless - watch how little effort Charlie Watts makes - he is clearly thinking "fuck this" throughout.
 
"Love Comes Quickly" still sounding good...my memory tells me it was considered a commercial disappointment at the time...let's see if that proves accurate. I seem to remember a 12" single with a 7" sized label as one of the formats.

And I've never seen such a nasty selection of blouson jackets.

I wonder if wardrobe really hated him, or if he just had really bad taste?
 
Remember how ghastly OUR TUNE was? And how HUGE for a time as well. During the early/mid eighties if I was off school I remember my mum listening to it religiously and invariably finding her a sobbing heap in the kitchen afterwards.

I seem to recall reading Chris Lowe being frustrated that one of their favourite songs was one of their biggest relative flops.

Don Letts = legend. Couldn't play a fucking thing but still got on TOTP with PIL and BAD in the same year. Wrote a lot of the lyrics so less Bez, more Richey Manic...
 
I must say 1986 seems to be getting better. The SOS Band, Madonna, Queen and George Michael were all decent tracks.

I am familiar with A Different Corner, but not overly. It's dripping in 80s and a further sign of things to come for Our George.

Another thing my memory tells me is that "A Different Corner" was the first UK No. 1 to be the sole work of one person, George recording it at home entirely by himself. Must Google that one later.
 
Train Of Thought wasn't A-ha's best was it....I think Hunting High And Low is next for them tho'.

(edit - mind you, that high note on the chorus is worth the entry fee....)

Falco, jeez. I have a double 7" tribute to Falco somewhere in my collection...made by V/Vm (aka The Caretaker) without any permission from anyone.
