These 1986 episodes are a bit of a struggle. Some real shite to be waded through.

The edition that is on BBC4 tonight is a live edition from Wednesday 23 July 1986. It was broadcast live as the following evening saw the opening cermony of the Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh. Wednesday 23 July 1986 was also a Royal Wedding Day - Andy and Fergie. I'm not sure if it was a public holiday but my office (in the Civil Sevice) was closed that day. I certainly didn't watch the wedding though, I had no interest in it.
 
1986 is throwing up a lot of FORGOTTEN stuff or at least acts I've never heard of. I mean Hollywood Beyond has a top 10 hit? I don't know them.

I had this record! On a 7" which came with a free cassette single. The 80''s were weird when it came to marketing.

They had different b-sides mind you. The cassette had a piece of hard-hitting political commentary called "South Africa". "Let the people go", sang Mr Beyond. And thus, it was done. Or somesuch.

I'm trying to remember what prompted the reissue of "Rock Lobster" especially given that the video was unquestionably cut from a video for a different song...

The outright weirdness of Spitting Image's parody of Agadoo being more successful than Agadoo has been lost over the years. I'd forgotten they'd done a "live" TOTP...maybe it was the trauma of Thatcher's lengthened tongue.

This episode is shite apart from Pet Shop Boys and even then, Neil Tennant is dressed like a shady cricket umpire and Chris Lowe's turn on the drums ain't his most inspiring.
 
I remember Bucks Fizz's "real music" phase pretty well but 4 drummers is seriously over-egging the pud.
 
Hang on, wasn't there about 12 members of Amazulu last time? Tory cuts no doubt.
