Old TOTP (BBC4)

I note Stay climbed to number 1, spent 8 weeks there and then went 2-5-19-47 OUT

These missing episodes are not the thing. I mean I don't mind The Pasadeanas but the return performances are annoying back to back. Quite a lot that I had forgotten about or have no memory of at all featured at the moment too, especially in the breakers.

Oh HELLO young James Dean Bradfield. That Bryan Adams video felt nearly as long as the full Black or White.

Was quite sad watching Sharon Redd dancing about in that massive hat knowing she would be dead a few months later :(

Hit by the Sugarcubes still sounding good. Even the "rap" bit is tolerable these days.

They really like to show extended videos atm. What an obnoxious aspect. Genesis was especially unnecessary.

There are missing episodes, hence the back to back. Whoever that cunt was that refused to shown. How do they even have that much power?

The Beeb didn't put repeat clauses in the contracts for the presenters, only the performers. So anyone can refuse to sign off a repeat and that's that.

I'm not in love with that Wet Wet Wet song eternally at no.1. I get it, but it's wishy washy and I'll always take Love Is All Around as their prime no.1.

Why are they telling us the chart positions at the beginning of the bloody programme??!

2 Unlimited were solid and FUN to boot.

They took silly Europop SERIOUSLY, which must be admired.

"Give Me Just a Little More Time" shows why Kylie had to split from PWL. It's just so...nothingy.

I'd forgotten that Wet Wet Wet always mimed to a different version of Goodnight Girl on the telly because the actual single was really stripped down and most of them had fuck all to do except mime the BVs.

It's actually quite amazing that 6 of those 7 people are still in James in 2022.

Aww, the Wonder Stuff with Kirsty MacColl. Great song - we must have lost the episode where they were in the studio.

I like James, but they're really just a Bono away from being terrible.

But that Bono is critical. It would just have needed Tim Booth to go up his own arse instead of becoming a yoga enthusiast and dance teacher.

It was deleted if I remember rightly, to maximise album sales. Common practice at the time- even Wet Wet Wet themselves did it to get Love Is All Around out of the charts

It was hardly reflective of the era. It was a "bad" single choice, that's all. Though I say, "bad", it was by far the biggest hit from the album...

That's my memory too...as soon as if fell from #1, they deleted it.

...which is part of the problem of itself. Beige cover versions should have been well past her by that time.

Funnier for me was that ITV's much missed The Chart Show never used to let records climb back up the chart but "Stay" was #2 in the Week 2 midweeks or something and so they put it as a faller and it stayed at number one. They then had it basically as a non mover in the lower top ten for about THREE MONTHS whilst it stayed officially on the top of the charts :D

The Chart Show used infuriate me.

I've checked and I think we're losing the episode that opens with Inspira Carpets' "Dragging Me Down". :(
