I've grown to rather love this now, despite my previous reservations.
 
Still loving it. I think the 70s references are lost on a lot of younger people. Not that that should make a difference whether you like the song or not, but it went a long way for me
 
I think its quite a brave single choice, I like it but then I loved the first single too, I could totally see where they were going with the first single but it didn't catch on just at the level they would have hoped for.

She's ticking away OK without totally bombing, so I am hopeful for the album
 
I know the charts aren't the same as they used to be, but I'm not sure a week at #69 is really ticking along okay, is it?

the streaming figures aren't disastrous, i feel like she's ticking along with airplay hits, an underperforming second single yes but I don't feel we are at Jesy Nelson second singal type affair yet where everything will just be shelved.
 
How do you qualify 'disastrous'? Numbers get thrown around and I've no idea what they really mean any more. 2.6m streams in 5 weeks doesn't sound bad, but as far as I can see it wasn't good enough to chart on Spotify anywhere. It didn't even chart in the top 200 in the UK on day of release. Isn't that poor for a single pre album release? It doesn't strike me as significantly better than Jesy.

Has Tears been an airplay hit? But even if it has, like Forget About Us undoubtedly was, isn't that even more concerning that she's getting all that radio support, and can't translate it to streams at all, or sales beyond the first few days? At least Jesy had the excuse that she was already written off as chart poison by the time she released her second single.
 
Loved this from first listen and still do. Shame it hasn't connected with the youth but what a slinky 70s treat for those who like this kind of thing

Ha I don't think he meant it that way, just a counter voice for the hype around their solo material - it's a fair point that they're not exactly setting the world on fire as yet... but I do think, given Jesy's toxic campaign and the fact that I don't really think they set any major goals as solo stars to be the next Lady Gaga or Beyonce (at least it doesn't feel that way), the success of Jade and Perrie at least has been quite positive and still has potential.

I don't think anyone could argue that Leigh-Anne's campaign has been disappointing, but that's not just because of the charts performance. There's just nothing there.

And to swerve the conversation back to the obvious, the charts are a mess anyway and it's very difficult for people to have Top 10 hits these days. Back in the 80s that was because the charts were so competitive, these days, well we know why these days. Perrie would have charted much higher than #69 if the chart was based on a more transactional algorithm, as it was for about 50 years.
 
She has a younger audience and the biggest social media presence of all the members so all that airplay support SHOULD be transferring to streams, no?

When the Spice Girls all went solo, the way the charts were set up meant they could rack up multiple top ten hits each pretty much on fanbase alone, plus they'd be reliably performing on all the TV shows - TOTP, CD:UK, Popworld etc. None of those are a thing anymore, so unless you can launch to Harry Styles-style global megastardom, it's really difficult to make much of an impression.

Far fewer promo opportunities for new pop music, and they weren't competing with pretty much EVERY SONG EVER for chart 'sales'.

How many top ten singles are there each year now compared to that Solo Spice era? It must be far fewer.

Remember when missing the top ten was a disappointment? Now charting at all is a minor triumph.
 
Will it even be tacked on as a bonus track?
 
Either she, the label, or both must hate it.

Other than Plastic Box it's my favourite solo track by any of them.

Tears and Rollercoaster were the only tracks that had any personality to them. The 3 surviving songs are bland as fuck and I can’t distinguish them. I could understand her dropping the other two if she had decided to go in a specific direction but these 3 songs couldn’t sound any more directionless
