fun fact: for the longest time I thought the lyric was "crazy Irish day" which I assumed must've meant he had her drinking all day in despair. :D / :(

Red Blooded Woman: WHAT A SONG! Quite a DIVISIVE entry in her OUEVRE of hits and I'm not entirely convinced it sits well on Body Language (not that it would've been more at home on any other record). Again, I'm not sure it should work but it's actually my favourite/typical go-to of the 3 singles these days. It's a total VIBE PIECE. It makes me wanna be NAUGHTY. It makes me wanna JACK somebody's car (lol I don't drive) and STEAL THEIR MAN. Very good stuff, and one of the last times she really went left with a single.

Interesting. It's deffo glossier, but not very American IMHO. The Prince reference I TOTALLY UNDERSTAND

I genuinely think it is influenced by Cry Me A River. The backing track veers towards being a pastiche of that song.

Blame bloody Karen Poole. She’s not ALL bad though...
 
"Chocolate" is so elegant and luscious, and probably where the signature breathy vox work best.

So did they remove Ludacris' verse and keep his anonymous grunts in the background. That's what it sounds like. :D
 
I can't remember what I thought at the time but I bloody love "Red Blooded Woman". As much as it seems like such a RIDICULOUS path for Kylie to go down you've got to admire her having a go at some basic rnb-pop nonsense but making it quite KYLIE-ISH

Chocolate is so MYSTERIOUS. Almost every song so far has leant hard into constructing a specific VIBE. It's less about immediacy of hooks and more about role play. I think Chocolate was a fairly baffling single choice at the time, although to be fair it has more streams than RBW so maybe it's a low-key fan fave. It has aged very nicely. It is too long however.

Chocolate is the BL track I have kept on returning to. Twisty and full of folds and hidden depths, I like the way the melody resists, holds a lot back; the restraint when most of you queen would take the whole load. I live.

I like Obsession. But I prefer Promises over the two Mantronix tracks.
 
Oh god I'd forgotten how fucking LUSH "Chocolate" is - pretty sure I was nonplussed in 2003, but by god she sounds so breathy-beautiful and it feels like it hasn't aged a bit. Were the singles really that wrong? I'm feeling not at this point.

Obsession is very lovely (the backing vox chanting the "dangerous state of mind" line are fabulous) but it feels less essential than what's come before.

I think in isolation not really, but they're like 3 songs by different artists so as a run it feels RANDOM. They could definitely have chosen one sound (or two) to maybe sell this album more clearly.
 
I Feel For You has never been a favourite for me, sadly :( That backing sample thing is so jarring and does something unpleasant to my brain - as do the backing WHOOPS in Sensitized, which we'll be getting later :eyes:
 
Obsession is such a catchy little electro-pop number, quite subdued but actually a lot going on. I'm really loving the pace of this album
