I can't believe I am the one that will be doing the TO BE FAIR today...but..TO BE FAIR

It looks like a reaction to some better than expected figures, so they need to raise less money than they anticipated.



Now, I still think they SHOULD raise some taxes to give them more money to actually fix problems that have built up over the past 15 years, but the uturn makes more sense now at least, and isn't JUST a reaction to the politics of it all

So they are reducing higher rate income tax threshold, so they dont have to increase basic rate income tax... which basically is an increase to basic rate income tax! 🤦🏼‍♂️ make that make sense!

Labour looked like such a confident win in their GE I don’t know why not raising taxes of “working” people was ever in their manifesto.

(Being in Scotland I was quite into that NI reduction :basil: )

Honestly, this latest round of fash-sopping is just repulsive. They could at last have got someone other that LORD FARQUAD to deliver it. In blue as well! She wore blue!
 
Would I rather Labour did it than Farage? Yes. Is it an itch that needs to be scratched? Yes.

Do I like it? No of course I fucking don't like this cruel shit. It's insane that we're in a place where this has to happen. Wait and see what happens when refugees start building up in Germany and France for international security.

The messaging on it is too far ingrained in the public consciousness after years of plugging by the right, for it to not be. It's not my itch, but something like almost 60% of people now consider immigration the key issue, over the economy, which is fucking mental.

But yes they could try, but humane positions rarely cut through the noise of the hateful right. Not my take, just what I see.
 
You will never satisfy a racist so you shouldn't try. The right wing press (ie almost all of it) have sought to make this the big issue of the day so that we don;t notice the collapse of basic public services because of the greed of the few. Labour are essentially trying to stay on the right side of people who will always hate them, never endorse them and never vote for them. Why? You're in government until 2029 with a whopping majority, stop trying to appease the most amplified voices.
 
nobody at the top of Labour seems able to comprehend this and it will be the undoing of them sooner or later, probably sooner.

it's really so simple. shout louder about some of the good stuff you've done (there is good stuff). announce sensible economic policies (tax the rich). change the narrative. present a positive vision for the country! and stop playing in reform's playground.

five years is a huge amount of time to do all of the above and get the public on side but they're squandering it blindly. bending over backwards to appease the right will damage the party beyond this government, which is already fucked.
 
Doing everything they can to appeal to the Refom vote and this is where it gets them.

He was responding to an attempted gotcha question in an interview so it’s very unlikely to happen. Hard to see the self-styled Mr Manchester decamping to Norwich, and it’s the kind of stunt that could backfire horribly in such an anti-Labour environment.
 
I also think any leadership bid facilitated by Clive Lewis would be SUICIDE for Burnham seeing as it'd instantly set all the anti-left MPs against him.
