Moopyvision 2010-2019 Round 2: Estonia, Italy & North Macedonia - RESULTS! (1 Viewer)

My fond memory of Tijana has to be her FURIOUSLY telling off Scott Mills on how to pronounce her name during one of the filler segments in the other semi ("TEE-YA-NA TEEYANA - GOODNESS ME DIDN'T YOU DO YOUR RESEARCH?")

Track's the definition of 2010s radio filler, which was actually a pretty big step up for Macedonia as it went.

3rd: Kaliopi - crno i belo (123pts)

Oh Moopy, how could you? :(

To be fair, this isn't a million miles away from the cheap cock rock that Macedonia have proven far too fond of sending to Eurovision, but if ever a performer dragged a song kicking and screaming into the finals by sheer force of personality, it's queen Kaliopi here. She absolutely owns the stage from start to finish, and her failure to crack the top ten can only be attributed to the overload of vocal powerhouses on the stage that year.

Still Macedonia's best pre-Tamara result ever though, and rightly so.

3 x 12pts (VoR, Buttertart, sewerynsven)
1 x 2pts (Kevin)

So the top two are between Dance Alone and Lost & Found, genuinely two of the worst performances I've ever witnessed at Eurovision.

I guess that's fitting. :D

But also by FAR the two best songs.

That other one in 3rd was tremendous for many reasons but cannot compete with this nonsense

How is Lost and Found in the top 2? I mean, I like it well enough, but it's the most clumsy cut-and-shut of two completely different songs since Icebreaker.

I suppose it wins points for her lumbering around the stage dressed in a pink chamois leather, but still.

2nd: Eye Cue - Lost & Found (144pts)

The concept of Xenomania at Eurovision isn't one that's been tested very often at Eurovision, and it's sadly possible that Eye Cue demonstrate why. On record this could have been pulled from the tracklisting of Out of Control, but the curiously stop-start structure is a bad, bad fit for a 3 minute live performance. It didn't help that the visuals featured a grinning egg-man and THAT FUCKING DISGUSTING DRESS.

An unfortunate but entirely explicable bomb... Stick to the Spotify version.

3 x 12pts (Raining on Me, Suomi, Jacques)
Lowest Score: 2pts (Sewerynsven)

1st: Jana Burčeska - Dance Alone (183pts)

I'm guessing you all voted based on the studio versions then. :D

At the risk of doing a Kala style name drop frenzy, I'm friendly with one of the guys on the Macedonian delegation. After watching a few rehearsals in Kyiv, I sincerely suggested that it might sound better if they put her own vocals a bit higher in the mix rather than drowning her out so much on the verses. He just looked aghast and shook his head.

On record, a Little Boots-esque treat. Live, a complete catastrophe on every level. What even is that dancing she's doing at the halfway point? To nick a line from Sheena on 80s icon Mandy Smith, she truly looks like she's never held a microphone before in her life.

A fabulous track though, but [Dannii Minogue face] IS THIS A SINGING CONTEST?

11 x 12pts (Dark Carnival, Penelope, Kevin7, Kevin, David_5000, superstylin, Kalabaliken, Tetris Rock, Pingu, Alla)
Lowest Score: 4 (Sewerynsven)

I imagine it'll be either Soldi or Francesca and TEARS BY BEDTIME EITHER WAY :disco:

Hopefully time hasn’t been at all kind to Francesco and everyone will remember the awful final performance or reserve their vote for the Call My Bluff rate :disco:

I wish I could name name drop 'someone from the Macedonian delegation'.

Jel.

I’ve only just realised that the Macedonian presentation hadn’t finished yet and there I am blathering on about Italy :tongueout:

I still can't believe the Macedonian delegation really decided to major on revealing that Jana was pregnant after three minutes of FLASHING HER UTERUS AT EVERYONE

Still, I imagine most WEREN'T SURPRISED

9th: Raphael Gualazzi (34pts)

Not the MOST promising comeback vehicle for Italy, on many levels. Returning from an epic 14 year strop with a slice of Jazz wankery felt like the height of trolling, and many predicted a disastrous reception and swift return to jeering from the sidelines.

As it turns out, against the odds this connected, at least enough to nab a surprise - albeit largely jury fuelled second place.

I like it more than most, but it's absolutely the opening act to a much better show...

Highest score: 8pts (ameraal)
7 x 0 (Penelope, Kevin7, David_5000, Jacques, Kalabaliken, Ill Advised, Buttertart)

DREADFUL and I'm never not going to be convinced that jury win wasn't totally leant on by the EBU ALL A-FLUTTER at the idea of Italy stropping off again immediately after they'd spent the best part of a decade trying to get them back

When I heard this fucking CLEFT and his shower of hipster shite, I was all for Italy fucking off back where they came from. Glad they stuck around, even for the duff years when they accidentally sent women.

8th: Ermal Meta and Fabrizio Moro - Non mi avete fatto niente (54pts)

Another surprise hit from what many expected to be an Italian off-year. It's very nice, but all a bit worthy, no? I don't really have much to say about it, beyond that it did better than virtually everybody expected it to. Maybe the onscreen lyrics helped?

5 x 6pts (Raining on Me, Dark Carnival, Ag, Buttertart, Win The Game)
5 x 0pts (VoR, Alla, Pingu, Kevin, ameraal)

Dance Alone was a tremendous little slice and she made the best of it. You can't say (Former North Under) Macedonia haven't tried recently. Easily one of the greatest entrants ever if we say 2017 is the starting point of the contest
