You could weaponise the mood in my office today. The general feeling seems to be that things are about to get a lot worse, what with the government issuing woolly, easily misinterpreted guidelines in an effort to pander to the type of wanker who bleats about the blitz spirit of the British, but can’t spend six weeks at home without turning into a blubbering wreck.

Considering their recent articles framing Italy as the EU death capital and Russia as the country with Europe’s highest infection rate, I was surprised to see article on the BBC today saying that the number of people who have died over the last few weeks above the “normal level ” of deaths for this time of year is actually more than 50,000.

That’s 15000 more than the “official” 36000 coronavirus related deaths.
 
I really can't with the UK these days (I say this as if I have been able to for the last five years).

So the gammons who have, for the last half-decade, railed in favour of driving the economy off a cliff in their Red-White-and-Blue Brexit Bus are now the ones chomping at the bit for an end to the lockdown... for the sake of the economy...

All the while, positioning themselves as the champions of "COMMON SENSE".

Someone needs to permanently affix a Nene Leakes gif to my mask in case anyone talks to me about the UK in the future.

So this week they started to give away 14 millions of masks in Madrid, you can get them for free in the pharmacy. I picked up one and I thought it was too thin for a FPP2 (I already have a couple of them), but they were made by a Chinese company and had all the certificates of the European Union, so what could be wrong? Well, the certificates were FAKE, they just found out and the Chinese company deleted their website and disappeared. Speechless.
 
Good grief, and I thought the UK Government's dodgy batch of PPE from Turkey was bad!

I was going to ask how many of you are actively using face masks. I havent bought any yet. I suspect the ones on Amazon are mainly crap.
 
I am. I bought a couple on Etsy and a small bag of medical ones from eBay which I'll hold onto for now.

What sort of price range did you go for? I expect the cheap ones to be rather limp. I live alone and work from home now so haven’t felt an urgent need yet but I’ve heard Belfast and Dublin Airports won’t be letting anyone in the terminals without face masks for a long time even after the all clear has been given to fly as normal.
 
The Etsy ones were £5 each with a quid off because I bought two.

They're comfy enough and very much on-brand being completely black because a pandemic is no reason to discard one's aesthetic.
 
masks are no longer mandatory here and everyone gave up on them the very second they could.

i still wear mine because 1) i like to be contrary, 2) i hope i'm just being extra doom and gloom but i honestly fear a big non-olga-related corona comeback following the lifting of the lockdown and 3) i find that i enjoy the anonymity.

i'm a bit conflicted on the last point, as i'm having dystopian visions of some of my more backward compatriots using them in their quest to preserve the sacred bulgarian race, family, nation, etc.
 
I bought a few from Etsy this week and will probably wear them on public transport if I had to go back to the office at any time (they might need someone to go in to sort out a few things as it seems I’m apparently the most senior person who lives within a 5 mile radius of the place). As far as walking to the supermarket and back, no.
 
I wore a mask for the first time today and it was so uncomfortable, my glasses kept getting foggy and I got sweaty immediately. I can’t imagine doing it in the summer.
 
A Chinese girl who works for me gave me 20 face masks the other day, that she'd had imported from China.

Frankly i can never see me wearing them so i do wonder how much i can get for them on ebay.

£20. Seem to be about a quid each in quantities of ten and above.

I want a Moopy facemask with a manson on it. Instant response to anyone who queries the wearing thereof.
 
I'm all for slagging off the Fail and euthanising everyone that works there but that is clutching at straws A BIT :D
 
Well sure, but they could have laid things out differently or used a different photo. They didn't, because a picture with only white people in it speaks to their readers in a way that a more diverse one wouldn't. I'm not saying it's the biggest issue with all this (trying to manufacture a narrative to bully teachers into putting their lives at risk is the real story), but it's still shitty.
