I agree that it's pretty much a free for all otherwise though, with little distancing, following guided routes or waiting for people to move on. I had to wait to get in the small M&S foodhall yesterday, but other than that it's clear that supermarkets are just letting too many people in.

It was so busy in Sainsbury's today and they still have the railings up but have long given up on having people queue outside. Agree that virtually everyone is wearing masks but not doing much to distance. Also find it quite annoying that supermarket shopping still seems to be a couple or family event. It makes it much harder to keep out of the way in an aisle when they are two by two or a fucking swarm.

when were put in highest tier before everyone else, the supermarkets had plenty of food and essentials, but all the sections that sold gifts and baby clothes and electronics were bare. Can’t even imagine what it would be like at Christmas.

bear in mind that in central London, there’s hardly any large supermarkets anyway. They’re all Tesco Express and Sainsbury’s local and sell mostly sandwiches and bits of everything else. Awful.
 
Pray for me Moopy for I will have to brave the double whammy of Lidl AND Waitrose (with obligatory walk of shame between the two) after work on Tuesday.
 
I find it very odd that Tier 2 becomes Tier 4 at the border of my town. Although I haven't witnessed a major amount of rule breaking it seems odd that its especially different here than say Chelmsford or other nearby areas.
 
Good grief I’ve only just noticed that the infection rate numbers have peaked, on a Sunday. That’s usually the lowest day of the week. Doesn’t bode well for the coming week.
 
I think it must be regional or maybe some level of dumb luck... not exaggerating when I say Barrow Tesco was 50/50 on masks the other day.
 
Compliance in terms of masks is very high here. I've not seen anyone maskless in over a month.

I'm not saying correlation and causation are definite, but that could be a factor in our rates being much lower than mostly anywhere else. (Albeit up a lot today)
 
There’s a place in the south east called Medway that has an infection rate of 831. I’ve never seen it that high. Where I am is 88.

Where are you?! I'd say in shops it's in excess of 90% wearing masks here and on the tube... it really is close to 100% now. It's got better and better as far as I can see.

Really!! My work has got worse, so many 'exempt' now
 
All I've got left to get are a few chocolate bits for Mr L's stocking, and a few gift vouchers for the older children. But I know I can do them by email.

I will need to do a food shop for some veg at some point as well, but the freezer is well stocked.

They used to be close to 100% but it seems like the anti mask brigade has taken over. Or maybe it was just an unusual number on that particular day
 
People actually complain about wearing masks in a retail environment and opt to be exempt? Why would you ever take such a fucking risk?

I mean I’m sure some are exempt but that would be rare circumstances surely

I really don’t understand humans.

I don't understand it either. When I ask people if they have a mask on them I'll get a response like 'oh I never get sick anyway'
The worst are the rude ones, 'Isn't it OBVIOUS I'm exempt??'. Well no actually, it isn't.
 
We have a few at work who are exempt, but they're all behind tills with big screens in front of them.

I work backstage and I'm often on my own so I don't wear one unless I have to go on the shop floor for some reason, which is often.
 
Swear some people seem to think being “exempt” from wearing a mask also makes you exempt from catching the thing. There’s a woman at my work who insists she’s exempt and yet refuses to take any extra precautions of not wearing a mask and swans around willy nilly talking to everyone.

And the other annoying thing is how many times you have to tell the same people to wear their mask properly!
 
I have to wonder about some of the exempt people. A few weeks ago, I overheard a man in a shop explaining to the cashier that wearing a mask set off his anxiety. To which I wanted to say, "oh, yes, well having a potentially deadly virus breathed over me by a cunt sets off MY anxiety".
 
I have a friend who moaned for weeks (before they were mandatory) about wearing masks, saying they triggered his anxiety. He does indeed have chronic anxiety, but he got over it.

I think some people simply don't understand that NOBODY REALLY LIKES WEARING them.
 
Well if they don’t like wearing masks then they’ll not be fond of a VENTILATOR will they.

I think once you wear them for a 12 hour shift you realise that, yes they’re uncomfortable, but they’re really not THAT BAD.
 
I’m so pleased I’ve had the distraction of a 12 hour shift today and also for the next three days.

He's going to have to quit in the new year, surely? How does he possibly survive a clusterfuck of this magnitude?
 
Surely he wouldn’t stand down now of his own volition and have the most disastrous legacy of any British PM?
 
I imagine Boris will hang around. Presumably someone else actually does the job, so I doubt he's finding the workload too challenging, and the Tories have an 80 seat majority with no general election in sight, so they don't have to worry about the country getting a chance to oust them just yet.

Plus, I'm not sure which of them would even WANT his job in the midst of a pandemic and straight after Brexit.

I see now that Hannover airport has put passengers arriving from London on camp beds in a terminal until their test results are returned.

 
It may just as well that the UK is BANNED from the rest of Europe as no one at the Home Office has a clue about what's going to happen in 10 days time regarding travelling to the EU. I rang Border Control and the Exiting the EU department today and was held on waiting for NINETY minutes and no one could give me a straight answer afterwards. It really is the perfect storm of two massive seismic events colliding at the same time.
 
This is ridiculous really - there are bound to be slight variants of the virus everywhere by now, but nobody else has done the research to the extent the UK has (or turned it into a big announcement to scare the public into another massive U-turn)

I'm sure there are tabloids just like the UK ones calling it a MUTANT VIRUS. Why can't people just do a bit of simple reading?
