I really think it’s fine to meet up at Christmas as long as you’re sensible and do your best to limit other social contact for the next two weeks.

I’M REALLY ONLY SEEING PEOPLE AT WORK ANYWAY AND THE COVID RULES THERE ARE VERY GOOD. I RIDE MY RED BIKE TO AND FROM WORK SO I’M NOT TAKING PUBLIC TRANSPORT EITHER.

Lots of chat in Essex that we're heading into Tier 3 again next week, which will be an absolute disaster for the local economy a week before Xmas.

Some fucking rough times coming up

Absolutely no fucking point until they decide to close schools again. Should really just start from school Christmas holidays and not let them back until February.

I read a few days back that it was rumoured only parts of Essex would be going into tier 3, including Basildon, Harlow, Epping and Thurrock. I don't know if they are likely to split it down in that way though.

Yeah this outbreak started in the lockdown so entertainment venues are not to blame, why didn’t they close ALL schools for the 2 weeks before Christmas?

There's an antivaxxer protest going on right now here. Apparently they were hopeful of a crowd of 1000, but reporters are estimating 200.

This hits the nail on the head. Schools don’t close here until the 23rd but my son won’t be going to school after next week as although we don’t have any big plans this year I do not fancy self isolating over Christmas.

Are cases going up AGAIN?

I think in Scotland they're on the way down, but it's inevitable that this is the case when parts of the country have been in lockdown

London does seem out of control though and I suspect we'll all be back in lockdown before the new year down here.

All the rumours are saying this week. Imagine the shops the day before if so. Actually imagine the Christmas presents people will be getting from those who traditionally leave it all til Christmas Eve. “I thought you LIKED milk and frozen peas!”

Cases in York have gone up for the first time in ages. Alright, it's only a smidge and we're still around 60 per 100k, but still.

Let's face it, the cat is well and truly out the bag now. I doubt even national lockdowns in January will have much effect. People either have lockdown fatigue or have stopped listening.

A friend of mine invited me round to his for a beer last night. I was like, what?

I had that a few weeks ago in the middle of full lockdown. I think at this stage so many people know others who have had it, and weren't badly affected, that they're not scared any more.

The peas might come in handy if i drop something else on my foot :disco:

I’m so annoyed about this. Not seeing people is killing me. At a time when I’ve had so much shit in my life and could really use a hug, the normality of just being around people who love me and an ear to bend, I’ve played the whole thing to the book. And it feels like NO ONE is paying attention.

I’m in a WhatsApp group about our annual boys’ get together and it’s turned from 6 people in a pub garden (which I’m still really reluctant about and so have declined) to three tables next to each each other in two pub gardens and one of the guys prepping his house for everyone to go back to his afterwards. It’ll be cocaine-y and they’ll all be sharing notes by the end of the night. Same person talked about his work Christmas do which they had at their office on Friday night and apparently got “super messy with loads of gear” and was about 40 people.

We took my Mum out yesterday to get a few bits of shopping and it was rammed, with fuck all social distancing. Pubs had tables with 6-8 on who blatantly didn’t live together and it seems eating a meal and then staying all day is totally ok.

And the worst thing about all of this? Yesterday, after a glass of wine at home, talking to a friend on WhatsApp who I miss dearly and want to see, I just said “y’know what? Fuck it, come over. No one else is bothered so why should I be?”. Luckily she couldn’t anyway and half an hour later and the wine had worn off I realised I absolutely shouldn’t have done it. But the thought was there, and it must be what millions of others are thinking and doing.

And do not get me started on my Mum. Who seems to think it’s ok to just do anything she likes, and the family members who think I’m overreacting and who think it’s fine to take her out for the day in their car when they have 2 school age kids, both parents having public facing jobs and keep posting pictures of them on Instagram with various friends and family members carrying on completely as normal...

I actually met up with 3 friends at the pub on Friday - technically outside under a heated canopy and had a proper meal when I arrived. The loophole to continue to order drinks after the meal was to order a lame cheeseboard consisting of a few crackers and a bit of cheddar, and just keep it on the table. Obviously staying there for an extra hour after finishing the food wasn’t going to be any more dangerous and it’s just to discourage people from leaving their table and mixing with strangers.

When I masked up to go inside to the toilet there were a few tables of 5-6 middle aged men together - hard to believe that they all lived together, but how would that be any more dangerous that us sitting under the canopy? The rules don’t really make much practical sense, which is clearly why they’re being broken. Then again I am certain the friends I met with were being sensible as one even broke his leg back in March and is still on crutches so hasn’t physically gone anywhere other than his local supermarket. None of them have or mix with children under any circumstance so I’d say it’s a safer bet than what Sheena described above.

There is a bit of a difference with sitting inside/ outside. A fresh air flow has been shown to reduce the risk of infection. That's another reason I hate my work room - small room and no air flow!

In plans which I’m sure will go down like a LEAD BALLOON apparently they’re planning on putting the outer London boroughs in tier 3 but keeping Central London in tier 2 :D

I know what you mean @Sheena

Last week when meeting friends in the pub we'd purposefully picked somewhere with a large beer garden and heaters etc. but when my friend got there he text saying he'd arrived and was sitting "by the window". I asked if he was inside or outside and he said he was inside "but there are loads of tables here clearly not from the same household". It annoyed me how I had to be the bad guy and ask him to move outside. It certainly crossed my mind to not bother with the awkwardness and just sit inside with them so I can see how these big indoor tables come to be.

THIS IS IT!

Several people in my work have unloaded the track and trace app. They've either had it or, in most cases, know someone who did and who fully recovered so they're just like "fuck it, it'll be alright". Yeah, for YOU, you dumb fuck.

A temporary stray “not” in my last post may have rendered it somewhat nonsensical :)
