The Ballad Of Tom Jones is genuinely of my favourites from 1998.

With the wake of Britpop leaving behind a lot of po-faced ARSE, Space were a welcome bit of irreverence

What an absolutely dreadful song - the lyrics are like an actual parody of all that fluff around then :D

But Sardonicus N-Tyce were on Telstar. Whilst Fierce were on Wildstar. Fierce were the the oddest act. They had their biggest hit Sweet Love 2K (StarGate Mix) & were dropped. Which led them to Mis-teeq, StarGate produced their biggest hits.

Yeah I always found that odd with Fierce, there was a seeming big final push of promotion that got them a top 3 hit & then nothing.

For years around Liverpool, a :disco: remix of their earlier hit "Dayz Like That" was a huge club anthem, but I never heard it played anywhere else.
 
Just catching up now. This Hinda Hicks performance is one of the worst performances in terms of oversinging I ever remember seeing. Awful.
 
Obviously I'm choosing to ignore all of the dreadful male guitar bands, most of who deserve no comment at all. This era feels like quite hard going.
 
Alexia with "Uh La La La" - now I'm always up for a bit of :disco: FUN FOR EUROPE like this. Should have been released later in the year though, it's a summer song through & through.
 
And Kylie with the brilliantly floaty "Breathe". It's a shame it was too late to save the project. Again I think SKOB being released first was a mistake. People thought Kylie had gone all Manics, this was a better representation of the majority of the album.

It was a summer hit in Europe in 1997. Albeit in an awful Euro rap reggae form. Thankfully we were spared and got a UK remix
 
The 10/04 episode so far is a Robbie performance we've already seen, a Savage Garden performance we've already seen and a music video. FLUSH so far

Finally starting to get to the good pop of 1998. There still was a lot of Brit pop esque dreck around wasn’t there? Thankfully more in the #18 position than #1.
 
All That Matters may just have been the most LIMP song Louise ever released, and that's saying something.

Kiss The Rain is possibly my favourite one hit wonder. Bringing ANDROGYNY back into 1998 :disco:
 
My friend commented on All That Matters that it sounds like a montage song in search of a B-tier romantic comedy, which I think is about right.

Bless her for braving a live vocal though.

Any idea why the project was abandoned after this single VoR? I would have thought they'd try & squeeze another couple of top 20 hits out of the album.
 
It’s the great mystery! Woman In Me was selling well and the previous two singles were big hits.

I think maybe she wanted a break given she’d just got engaged to Jamie and hadn’t really stopped since Always & Forever. Or perhaps there just wasn’t much faith that a fourth single would return much investment after this became her first top ten miss since In Walked Love.
